Mumbai Port Authority Commissions Three Fire Tenders & Dewatering Pump At Victoria Docks To Strengthen Emergency Response

On 19 August 2026, the Mumbai Port Authority officially launched three advanced fire tenders and a dewatering pump at the Victoria Docks Fire Memorial. The event was attended by the Port Authority's Chairperson Dr. Madhaiyaan Angamuthu, IAS, Deputy Chairperson Shri Adesh Titarmare, IAS, and other senior officials.

The new fire tenders have been deployed to enhance the Port Fire Service's ability to respond to fires within the port's premises. Mumbai Port is a crucial hub for petroleum products, chemicals, cargo vessels, warehouses, oil jetties, and marine infrastructure, where rapid fire response is essential for safety.

The fire tenders are equipped with high-pressure monitors that allow firefighters to tackle incidents from a safe distance, even in challenging heat and smoke conditions. They are also fitted with multi-pressure fire pumps, capable of delivering water at varying pressures ranging from 2,850 to 3,000 LPM at 7 to 10 bar, up to 250 to 400 LPM at 30 to 35 bar.

Additionally, the tenders feature large water and foam tanks, enabling extended firefighting operations before needing replenishment. This feature is particularly beneficial during emergencies at berths, vessels, storage areas, and other port locations.

To further bolster the Port Fire Service's capabilities, a trailer-mounted dewatering pump has been deployed. This diesel-driven, auto-priming pump has a 52 HP capacity, with a discharge rate of 550 cubic meters per hour, an 8-inch suction and discharge, and the ability to lift water up to a depth of 9 meters.
