Multi-role Damen Stan Patrol 5009 enters service with Romanian General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations

On August 14th, Romania's General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU) welcomed a versatile rescue vessel, MAI 0101, into its fleet during a ceremony in the Port of Constanța. This vessel, based on Damen Stan Patrol 5009 (SPa 5009) design, was specially built to meet Romania's multi-purpose emergency response needs.

Constructed by Damen Shipyards Galati, MAI 0101 is capable of carrying out firefighting duties, both aboard ships and offshore energy facilities, and in water operations. It is also equipped for search and rescue missions, as well as emergency medical assistance, including the provision of Mobile Emergency Service for Resuscitation and Extrication (SMURD) capabilities.

The vessel is equipped with self-protection installations, radar, and day/night surveillance cameras, and is capable of evacuating up to 50 people during rescue operations. It also features rapid response boats and a rescue system and crane.

Speaking at the event, Damen Sales Manager East and South East Europe, Alexander Shamray, expressed pride in contributing to this mission and highlighted the exceptional skill and dedication of Romanian shipbuilders, emphasizing that Romania continues to play a significant role in the European maritime industry. This MAI 0101 firefighting vessel symbolizes a strong partnership between Romania and the Netherlands, showcasing the country's commitment to enhancing safety and serving society.
