Miyazaki suggests FromSoftware is keen to return to single-player games after The Duskbloods and Elden Ring: Nightreign

Hidetaka Miyazaki, president of FromSoftware and a renowned director of Soulsian games, suggested during an interview with IGN that the studio is eager to return to single-player games after the release of The Duskbloods, a multiplayer title. Miyazaki clarified that the simultaneous release of Elden Ring: Nightreign and The Duskbloods was coincidental, as there was no planned strategy for both games to launch close together.

Both games were decided to be multiplayer experiences by different directors, Junya Ishizaki for Nightreign and Miyazaki for The Duskbloods. Despite this, Miyazaki emphasized that single-player content remains a significant focus for FromSoftware. He mentioned that working on multiplayer games for an extended period can spark a desire to create single-player experiences again.

FromSoftware's previous single-player game was Elden Ring (2022), which featured a traditional multiplayer mode, including co-op and invasions. However, it lacked the intense competitive multiplayer PvPvE (player versus player versus environment) found in The Duskbloods, which is exclusive to the Nintendo Switch 2. Miyazaki described The Duskbloods as an outlet for ideas that didn't quite fit within the context of a single-player game.

The game's partnership with Nintendo stemmed from mutual excitement and a forward-thinking approach to develop the game. Nintendo's involvement enhanced the onboarding process, providing clearer tutorials and ensuring players could easily understand and succeed in the game. Miyazaki highlighted that FromSoftware historically struggled with effectively conveying this information.

The Duskbloods' network test runs commenced this weekend (21st August) and are scheduled to run daily until 24th August, with no official release date confirmed yet, though there had been a brief speculation of a September release. FromSoftware is committed to releasing the game this year, leaving fans to ponder if its release date will be competitive with GTA 6's anticipated November 19th release.
