Merebank Fair returns to light up Badulla Drive
From a 1991 community fair to a book documenting generations of memories, Merebank is using its past to help shape its future
Merebank Fair returns to Badulla Drive Sports Grounds over two weekends, promoting community and raising funds. The Merebank Book Legacy Trust, chaired by Viren Singh, aims to empower residents through self-empowerment initiatives. The Trust's book, 'The Legacy of Merebank: Our People, Our Culture, Our Stories', will be launched on September 13.
The Fair, which began in 1991 due to industrial pollution concerns, has resurrected annually with entertainment, educational activities, and community events. The 2024 edition targets R2 million for sustainable community-development projects.
