Massive Russian strikes hit Kyiv killing several people

Russian ballistic missiles killed 12 people and injured more than 30 in Kyiv early on Thursday, authorities said, damaging buildings and severing power supply to some parts of the Ukrainian capital. FRANCE 24’s Camille Corcoran brings us more with this report.

Massive Russian strikes hit Kyiv killing several people

Ukrainian military drones reportedly struck an oil refinery and an oil terminal in Russia overnight on August 20, according to Russian Telegram media channels. The TANECO oil refinery in Nizhnekamsk, Russian Republic of Tatarstan, and the Tamanneftegaz oil terminal in Krasnodar Krai were targeted, as Ukraine continues its campaign against Russian oil infrastructure.

Photos and videos posted online allegedly show long-range drones striking the refinery. NASA's FIRMS satellite monitoring system detected a fire at the Tamanneftegaz terminal, though the Kyiv Independent cannot yet verify the reports. The TANECO refinery, a major Tatneft facility in Nizhnekamsk processing over 17 million metric tons of oil annually, was hit previously on August 10.

Ukraine has been targeting Russian oil infrastructure to diminish Moscow's ability to sustain its war efforts.
