Maharashtra Forms Panel To Frame SOP For Use Of AI-Powered Smart Glasses, Wearable Devices

Mumbai: Maharashtra has established a committee to create detailed guidelines for the safe and regulated use of AI-powered smart goggles, smart glasses, camera-enabled spectacles and other wearable devices. The committee, led by the Additional Director General of Police and head of the Maharashtra State Cyber Crime Coordination Centre, will assess the potential threats to national security, state security and citizens’ privacy posed by these devices.

The assessment will focus on the devices’ capabilities for capturing photographs and videos, live streaming, facial recognition and collecting data. The panel will also determine where and how these devices can and cannot be used, as well as develop security protocols to protect individual privacy and freedoms. Security personnel and agencies will receive specialized training modules based on the committee’s recommendations. The committee is expected to submit its report within four months.
