Lions Make QB Decision for Preseason Game Against Commanders

The Detroit Lions will face the Washington Commanders in a preseason game on Saturday, with head coach Dan Campbell confirming that veteran backup Josh Dobbs will start at quarterback. However, undrafted rookie signal caller Luke Altmyer will also receive equal playing time, serving as the backup quarterback. Jared Goff, on the other hand, will not see any action during the game, according to a team insider who reported on Thursday.

Prior to this preseason matchup, Altmyer had played a significant role in the Lions' opening game, starting and completing about two-thirds of the offensive plays in the 16-14 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. In that game, Altmyer completed 13 of his 22 pass attempts for 130 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions. Dobbs, meanwhile, threw for 32 yards on four of his eight pass attempts in the same contest.
