Los Angeles, California - March 30, 2026 - The Los Angeles Lakers may be considering a trade for Houston Rockets reserve center Clint Capela. The Lakers recently acquired starting center Walker Kessler from the Utah Jazz in exchange for DeAndre Ayton, and backup center Kevon Looney could be vulnerable due to injuries. With Kessler and Looney's future in question, adding Capela would provide the Lakers with more depth and security at the center position.
Capela's salary of $7 million would match the value of Lakers' guard Jaden Hardy, who would be the trade chip in exchange for Capela. Capela, 24 years old, could still contribute as a second-unit player for the Lakers, potentially running pick and rolls with Luka Doncic or Luka Reaves. Hardy's NBA career has been inconsistent, making him a plausible candidate for trade.
