Lagos: EFCC arraigns two over alleged sale of bank credentials for $15,000

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Lagos has formally charged two men, Gideon Bakpa Aghogho and Oscar Ebere Chukwuebuka, before the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Nigeria, over allegations of selling bank access credentials for $15,000. The arraignment took place on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, with a third suspect, Scott, still at large.

All three face eight counts of unauthorized supply of credentials that could grant access to a bank database, as per Sections 27 and 28(1)(b) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, Etc.) Act, 2015, amended in 2024.

Aghogho and Chukwuebuka allegedly supplied Aghogho with an administrative credential, used for FCMB's system between July 24 and 26, 2026, in Lagos. Prosecutors allege that this credential could provide access to FCMB's Virtual Center Platform and was sold with the intent to commit a crime. Another count accuses Aghogho of knowingly disclosing bank access credentials, including server IP and domain details, to someone without authorization between April and May 2025, in exchange for $15,000.

When the charges were read, Aghogho pleaded not guilty, while Chukwuebuka pleaded guilty. Following Aghogho's plea, the prosecutor requested a trial date and a remand in a correctional facility. Chukwuebuka's guilty plea prompted the prosecution to seek a review of the case facts. The court adjourned the matter until August 27, 2026, for further proceedings, and ordered the defendants to be held in a correctional center pending the next hearing.
