Katsina community deserted as over 3,000 residents flee attacks

Over 3,000 residents of Unguwar Guru community in Kankia Local Government Area, Katsina State, have been forced to flee their homes due to renewed attacks by bandits. The community, known for previous assaults, saw the latest attacks on Saturday and Monday, leaving 13 people dead and numerous women and girls abducted. Those displaced have taken refuge in uncompleted buildings, a primary school, or with relatives, many of whom have not eaten in days and have no access to essential relief materials.

Muhammadu Lurwanu, a resident, appealed to the Katsina State Government for urgent assistance, as they have not received aid from either the state or federal governments. The situation has left many traumatized, with injuries and missing family members, some of whom were buried without proper arrangements. The displaced residents are also worried about the security situation, fearing bandits might still be present.

They urgently request security deployment to allow them to return and evacuate their farm produce, which they believe led to the attacks. The Katsina State Government is awaiting a detailed report from local authorities on the situation before deciding on further actions.
