Although an EV-related fire is generally covered under standard home insurance policies, homeowners should ensure their property is adequately insured and inform their insurer when installing a permanent EV charger.

Electrical installations must comply with applicable requirements, and EV owners should review both their motor and home insurance policies to identify any potential coverage gaps. The fire at a two-storey house in Alam Damai, Cheras involved an EV charging on the porch and caused extensive damage. The exact cause of the fire is yet to be officially confirmed.
