Indore Municipal Corporation Collects 105.5 kg Of Single-Use Plastic On Day 1

Indore's municipal authorities have launched a campaign to reduce single-use plastic waste, inviting citizens to bring half a kilogram of plastic in exchange for a plant. From August 20 to 30, the Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) is operating 15 RRR (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) centres across the city, open from 9 am to 5 pm daily. As of the first day, 252 residents have deposited 105.5 kg of single-use plastic at these centres, which will be recycled or disposed of safely.

The campaign, initiated by Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargava and Municipal Commissioner Kshitij Singhal, has seen varying levels of participation at the different RRR centres. Palasia Square has recorded the highest participation with 26 citizens, followed by Ujjain Naka and World Cup Square, both with 24 and 22 participants respectively. Pagnis Paga, Hawa Bangla Zone Office, and BCM Heights each recorded participation from 20 citizens. Ujjain Naka also led in plastic collection with 12 kg, while World Cup Square collected 11 kg.

Citizens who wish to participate can scan the QR code on campaign posters to find their nearest RRR centre. The IMC urges residents, social organisations, and youth groups to join the initiative and help in reducing plastic waste while promoting a greener city.
