Indian caregiver killed in Israel, employer’s grandson arrested

A 31-year-old Indian national, Rajiv Acharya, was killed on July 23 in Jerusalem, Israel, by his employer's grandson, according to Israeli authorities. The Indian Embassy in Tel Aviv identified the victim and stated that a suspect has been arrested, and an investigation is ongoing. Avior Zaken, the 40-year-old suspect and grandson of the elderly couple, is in custody, and legal proceedings have commenced.

The Embassy is in close contact with Israeli authorities and continues to monitor the case. The victim, who had worked as a caregiver in Israel for five years, is survived by his parents, wife, and two children. The incident has raised concerns about the safety of Indian caregivers working in private residences in Israel, as thousands of Indians hold this position, addressing the country's skilled-workforce gap.
