High Court Gives State Final Chance To Explain Action Against Noise Pollution

Indore's High Court has granted the State Government a final opportunity to provide a response regarding its measures to combat noise pollution in the city. A division bench comprising Justice Subodh Abhyankar and Justice Alok Awasthi ruled that if the State does not file its reply, the District Magistrate will be summoned to explain the steps being taken to address noise violations.

The matter is scheduled to be heard on August 27. The court also instructed the Registry to obtain a report from the Indore district court on convictions or fines imposed under the Madhya Pradesh Kolahal Niyantran Adhiniyam, 1985, the State's noise-control law, for the year 2025-26. This directive follows concerns raised during the previous hearing on July 22 when officials appeared before the bench, with officials claiming action was being taken, but the court was dissatisfied with their responses.

They were directed to file replies and affidavits detailing existing actions and potential further measures. The State will also be required to explain the actions taken by the District Magistrate under Section 18 of the noise-control law. The upcoming hearing on August 27 may shed light on the enforcement of Indore's noise-control law during 2025-26.
