Harry and Meghan will move to the UK without resuming official royal duties

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, also known as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, will relocate to the United Kingdom this autumn, according to British media. However, they will not return to their former roles as working members of the royal family, as reported by The Telegraph and corroborated by a source close to the couple and confirmed by the Associated Press.

The couple's children, Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5, are already enrolled in British schools and will begin their classes in September. The family will reside in a private non-royal home outside of London, while maintaining their current homes in Montecito, California, and a holiday property in Portugal. Meghan will continue her work with her company, As Ever, from the United Kingdom, while Harry, being the younger son of King Charles III, will have more time to devote to the various British charities he supports.

This decision follows the couple's decision to step down from their official duties in March 2020, which was dubbed "Megxit" by the British press. Their departure was the result of a meeting convened by Queen Elizabeth II, which determined that a partial role within the royal household was not feasible. The couple had previously maintained a public confrontation with the monarchy, with Meghan accusing a member of the royal family of making disparaging comments about Archie's future skin tone and Prince Charles describing a physical altercation with his brother, Prince William, in his autobiography.
