GTF to roll out new awareness campaign

The Ghana Taekwondo Federation (GTF) is set to launch a new awareness campaign next month in Kumasi, Ashanti Region, aiming to introduce and develop the sport nationally. GTF President, Mr. Frederick Lartey Otu, stated this would kick off efforts to discover and cultivate a new generation of fighters to replace the aging top performers.

This announcement was made during a visit to three institutions, including the Embassy of the Republic of Korea, the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), and the National Sports Authority (NSA), where he engaged in discussions with their representatives.

Mr. Otu emphasized the importance of school children in the initiative, stating that the federation will not only inspire a desire for the sport but also strive to develop the best among them into future stars representing Ghana at the highest level. Following the campaign's launch, the four most deprived regions would be added to the Ashanti Region to ensure the sport reaches all corners of the country.

The GTF extends its gratitude to the Embassy, GOC, and NSA for their support in organizing championships, providing logistics, and offering sponsorships.

Mr. Lartey Otu praised the new executive team for their election and expressed hope that they would consolidate the progress made and intensify efforts to build a robust taekwondo ecosystem in all regions of Ghana. The Ghana Olympic Committee and National Sports Authority have both pledged their support for the GTF in raising a new generation of athletes for international competitions, including the Africa Games, Olympic Games, and beyond.
