Gang steals Sh980,000 from car after Homa Bay contractor visits hotel

In Homa Bay, police are probing the theft of Sh980,000 from a car, occurring shortly after the money had been withdrawn from a bank. The incident unfolded on Wednesday afternoon, when the owner of Comnex Contractor Limited, his brother, and their driver stopped at the Glory Hotel located along the Homa Bay-Kisumu Road. According to the police, the trio had just withdrawn Sh980,000 from the Equity Bank Homa Bay Branch around 3:30pm before proceeding to the hotel in a black Toyota Passo.

They parked the vehicle outside the hotel premises and left a sum of money under the co-driver's seat prior to dining inside the hotel. Upon returning to their vehicle, the group discovered that the co-driver's window had been shattered, and the cash had been stolen. Police officers from the Homa Bay Police Station, the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI), and Crime Scene Investigators arrived at the scene and started investigating the vehicle.

Initial findings revealed that the hotel possesses CCTV cameras, and a nearby petrol station also has surveillance cameras. Preliminary analysis suggests that footage from the petrol station captured a white Probox parked next to the complainant's vehicle, which was subsequently driven away towards Kisumu. Police are currently securing the available CCTV footage for further examination as they continue to investigate and identify the suspects behind the theft.
