FULL LIST: UK warns citizens against travel to 11 Nigerian states

The United Kingdom has issued a travel advisory warning its citizens against visiting 11 Nigerian states. The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) updated its Nigeria travel advice on August 20, 2026, stating that all travel to Borno, Yobe, Adamawa and Gombe states in the North-East, along with Katsina and Zamfara states in the North-West, should be avoided.

Additionally, Borno, Yobe, Adamawa, Gombe, Katsina, Zamfara, and the riverine areas of Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River states are designated as areas where travel is advised against, except for essential reasons. The FCDO also advises against all but essential travel to Bauchi State in the North-East, and Kaduna, Kano, Kebbi, Jigawa, Sokoto, Niger, Kogi, Plateau, Taraba, Kwara, and Benue states in the North-West, North-Central, and South-East and South-South regions.

The UK government has cautioned that no travel can be guaranteed safe and urged travelers to thoroughly research their destinations and obtain appropriate travel insurance. Travel insurance should cover the itinerary, planned activities, and expenses in an emergency, as failure to obtain travel insurance could result in its invalidation.
