Former Pakistani PM Imran Khan moved to hospital

Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan, currently incarcerated in Adiala Jail, has been moved to Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad for a medical examination, according to his party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). This transfer came about following a Supreme Court order and addresses concerns raised by Khan's supporters regarding his deteriorating health in prison.

Khan's lawyers have disclosed that he has lost significant vision in his right eye and his overall health has declined during his more than three years of imprisonment. While Pakistan's government maintains that medical reports indicate no conditions necessitating immediate treatment, the court ordered Khan's transfer to Shifa within 48 hours, ensuring access to a medical panel that includes his personal physician.

The Supreme Court's decision is viewed as a potential breakthrough, potentially easing tensions between Khan's party and Pakistan's powerful military establishment, which have been at odds since his removal from office in 2022. PTI spokesman Zulfikar Bukhari welcomed the ruling as a "new ray of hope," but the party remains committed to a nationwide march scheduled for September 27 to demand access to Khan, expedited hearings for his cases, and his release.

Khan maintains that the charges against him are politically motivated, a claim the government firmly denies.
