EXPLAINER: All you need to know about Google’s free 12-month AI Plus subscription

Google has launched a free 12-month AI Plus subscription program specifically for eligible students in Nigeria. This offer, known as the Gemini Student Offer, provides students aged 18 and above attending accredited Nigerian universities, polytechnics, or colleges of education with access to a suite of advanced artificial intelligence tools for their academic needs. The program is valued at ₦92,400 per student for the year.

Key features included in the Google AI Plus subscription are:

- Gemini Live & Omni for real-time voice conversations and brainstorming

- Deep Research for comprehensive academic searches and reliable citations

- Guided Learning Mode that acts as an interactive tutor

- Gemini Study Notebooks to convert lecture materials into study plans and quizzes

- Increased usage limits and storage, including unlimited file uploads and 400 GB of Google Cloud storage

To qualify for this offer, students must meet the following criteria:

- Be at least 18 years old

- Currently enrolled in an accredited Nigerian university, polytechnic, or college of education

- Provide verification through SheerID using their institutional email or student ID

Eligible students can claim their free 12-month access by visiting the official portal at gemini.google.com/students or one.google.com/ai-student. Upon signing in with their Google Account, they will need to verify their student status and upload required identification documents. Once verified, the offer can be accepted to immediately unlock all the AI Plus benefits on their account.
