Elected UK Green Party representative celebrates victory with attacks on ‘feral Zionist press’

Eleanora Sophie Folan, a newly elected Green Party representative for East Anglia, expressed her delight at being voted in as the party's female representative on its governing council. In a statement on social media, she welcomed the "hatred" from Zionists, stating her intention to uphold freedom of speech regarding Israel and condemn attacks on party members.

Folan credited Greens for Palestine for their support during the campaign, saying, "I'm very happy to say Green members in East Anglia have elected me to be their female rep on the party's governing council (GPC)." She also emphasized the party's transformation, asserting that her election as an anti-Zionist trans woman marked this change.

Folan, a data journalist, political commentator, and founder of the left-wing polling platform "Stats for Lefties," is set to collaborate with her colleagues on the governing council to build a radical anti-imperialist Green Party that supports various marginalized groups. However, her victory has sparked controversy within the party, with allegations of antisemitic tropes found in her social media activity.

These allegations stem from a May investigation by GnasherJew, which claimed Folan had propagated antisemitic rhetoric, such as labeling Israelis as "bloodthirsty child-killers" and dismissing accusations of antisemitism as a "fake moral panic" orchestrated by a "Zionist lobby." Despite these controversies, Folan's election highlights ongoing debates within the Green Party concerning Israel, Zionism, and British Jews, as well as the party's response to such issues.
