Elderly woman in Phuket arrested for running gambling fraud scheme

According to the Legacy Police, a 71-year-old Thai woman, identified as Sor, was arrested for running a gambling fraud scheme in Phuket. She is accused of swindling more than 9 million baht from a businesswoman in the city. Police arrested Sor on August 20 near Phattana Road in the Talat Nue subdistrict. The victim filed a complaint after losing over 9 million baht to Sor and her accomplice.

The victim claimed that Sor and Dome, a Thai man, pretended to be interested in buying land she advertised for sale at around 2 million baht. After gaining the victim's trust, they introduced her to Suea, who arranged for her to meet another woman named Hong. Hong pretended to be a wealthy woman interested in a gambling game called Fan Tan, which involved guessing about pumpkin seeds.

Suea taught the victim techniques to convince her she would win. The victim eventually put money into the game, increasing her wagers after the group pretended to lose several times. When the group secretly removed a pumpkin seed to manipulate the result, ensuring Hong's win, the victim realized she had been deceived. Police have reviewed Sor's criminal record and found that she had been involved in similar cases across Thailand for about 15 years, causing damages of over 64 million baht.
