Dodgers Provide Positive Edwin Díaz Injury Update

Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Edwin Diaz has been dealing with an unexpected year, as he was placed on the injured list for the second time this season. His initial injury was due to surgery to remove loose bodies from his elbow, which he underwent earlier in the season. After returning from that injury, Diaz went on the list again with neck inflammation after pitching on Monday.

Dave Roberts was pleased to report that the MRI results were clean, marking a positive outcome. However, it remains uncertain whether Díaz will remain out for the remainder of the season. Even when he returns, he needs to find his footing. Although he was the Trevor Hoffman National League Reliever of the Year winner last year, his performance this year has been far from that level.

Last year, he had a 10.50 ERA in the first seven games, followed by a 12.91 ERA after returning from the initial injury. Roberts acknowledged that he does not see a more dependable closer option in his bullpen. With Diaz now on the injured list, Tanner Scott will assume the role as the closer and could continue serving as such through the postseason if he performs well.
