Claude Can Now Send Gmail Messages Without Your Approval

Anthropic has expanded Claude’s integration with Google Workspace, granting the AI greater control over Gmail and Google Drive for paid users. Users can request Claude to draft, reply to, or forward emails in Gmail, while also deciding if Claude needs approval before sending those messages. By default, Claude seeks permission before executing Gmail actions; however, users have the option to allow Claude to perform certain actions without prior approval.

Organization owners on Team and Enterprise plans can determine whether members may enable these capabilities. Claude's expanded control over Gmail could potentially enable it to handle and send messages without requiring user review beforehand. Users dissatisfied with these features can disable them via the chat interface. For organizations, owners and primary owners can deactivate these functionalities through Organization settings Connectors.

Meanwhile, Claude’s capabilities with Google Drive have also been broadened. The AI can now share, move, and trash files within Google Drive, adhering to the same approval system where Claude seeks permission by default before executing these actions. Team and Enterprise administrators can choose whether users are permitted to allow Claude to perform these tasks without requesting approval each time.

However, certain limitations persist. Anthropic notes that Claude's Gmail integration may experience performance issues with large mailboxes and cannot access the contents of email attachments. Some advanced Gmail filters may also not function as intended. Similarly, limitations exist with Google Drive. Claude can extract text from Drive files, but cannot process images, comments, or suggestions contained within those files.
