Benjamin Asare to receive $38,000 JAC Motors Car for being best local Black Stars player

Ghana's goalkeeper for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Benjamin Asare, will receive a $38,000 JAC Motors vehicle for being the best local player selected in Ghana's national team. The Ghana Football Association (GFA) President, Kurt Okraku, announced the prize during the 32nd Ordinary Congress at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram. This achievement is particularly noteworthy as Asare was the only locally based player included in Ghana's 26-man squad for the tournament.

Asare, a former Hearts of Oak player, has been the first-choice goalkeeper for the Black Stars after proving his reliability in goal. He kept clean sheets in both of the matches he played, showcasing his ability to perform under pressure. His standout performance came during Ghana's goalless draw against England, where he made crucial saves to secure a valuable point against a highly-rated opponent.

The recognition of Asare as the best local player at the World Cup carries historical significance. He is the first locally based goalkeeper to start for Ghana at a FIFA World Cup, setting an important precedent for domestic players in the Ghana Premier League. Since his debut for the Black Stars during the 2024 Unity Cup, Asare has steadily risen to prominence, transitioning from a domestic prospect to the undisputed number-one goalkeeper for the national team.

His journey highlights that success in the Ghana Premier League can still lead to international recognition, providing hope and motivation for other local players aspiring to join the Black Stars.
