Application reliability startup Temporal reportedly in talks for $500M funding round

Temporal Technologies Inc., a rapidly expanding developer tooling company, is reportedly negotiating a $500 million funding round, according to Bloomberg. This new round could potentially value the company at over $12 billion, more than doubling its valuation following a February investment. The company's software helps applications recover from crashes more smoothly by tracking each step in a sequence, allowing them to pick up where they left off instead of starting over.

This feature is particularly beneficial for artificial intelligence workflows that can take weeks to complete. Temporal's core product, the Temporal Service, divides tasks into individual steps and assigns them to separate workers, capable of launching thousands simultaneously. However, the service also addresses potential performance issues by placing tasks in isolated environments or sandboxes, preventing them from affecting other applications.

To allow data sharing between these isolated environments, Temporal uses Nexus, a module that automatically manages secure connections. Temporal Cloud, a paid version of the platform, offers additional features like disaster recovery and autoscaling, which automatically adds hardware resources during high traffic. Its performance is enhanced by an append-only log, allowing bulk data recording to the underlying database.

The company's revenue grew by over 380% in 2025, suggesting its sales momentum continues into the current year. Temporal serves numerous tech companies, including OpenAI Group PBC and DoorDash Inc.
