Alpro Group partners with AstraZeneca for kidney screening initiative

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia – As chronic health conditions like diabetes, cardiovascular disease and chronic kidney disease continue to affect Malaysians, early detection is crucial in reducing complications and improving long-term health. These conditions are closely interconnected across the Cardio-Kidney-Metabolic spectrum, meaning a problem affecting one area may also increase risks to other parts of the body.

Early detection of a complication called hyperkalemia, marked by high blood potassium levels, is particularly important, as kidneys may struggle to remove excess potassium in people with chronic kidney disease. Often, hyperkalemia goes unnoticed until complications arise, posing serious threats to heart rhythm. In response to this challenge, Alpro Group and AstraZeneca Malaysia have launched a nationwide initiative called #AreYourKidneysOK+? to encourage early detection and raise awareness about kidney health and hyperkalemia.

Eligible individuals will receive subsidies for blood screening packages, making it more accessible to identify potential Cardio-Kidney-Metabolic risks. The campaign aims to reach 12,550 Malaysians and provides a digital health education platform for trusted information about hyperkalemia, its causes, risk factors, warning signs, and its connection to chronic kidney disease.

Alpro pharmacists will offer support and guidance to the public, helping individuals understand the importance of screening, recognise risk factors, and seek appropriate medical assessment or follow-up when necessary. The collaboration between Alpro Group and AstraZeneca Malaysia highlights the importance of community pharmacies in public health efforts, providing convenient access to health education, early screening, and professional guidance within communities.
