Aircraft carrier arrives in Middle East to relieve USS Lincoln after lengthy deployment

The USS George Washington, an aircraft carrier stationed in Asia, has recently joined the Middle East, replacing a carrier that had been deployed for an extended period. U.S. Central Command, which handles military operations in the Middle East, shared the news of the George Washington's arrival on social media, though the exact timeline of its stay in the region remains uncertain. Concerns have arisen regarding the Lincoln's prolonged deployment, including mental health issues, supply shortages, and reports of poor crew well-being.

Several Democratic lawmakers have called for accountability from the Department of Defense over the conditions on the Lincoln, which former Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth claimed were "completely misrepresented."

In a recent editorial, Adm. Brad Cooper, head of US Central Command, commended the crew's outstanding performance and expressed relief at their upcoming return home. Despite recent de-escalation of tensions between the US and Iran, the Navy has maintained a blockade on Iranian ports in the Strait of Hormuz and has not indicated a plan to end the conflict.

The Abraham Lincoln's departure is not imminent, as the carrier continues to uphold the blockade, and President Trump downplayed reports of crew hardships during the Lincoln's extended stay at sea.
