6 Indians on board hijacked cargo ship carrying Turkish weapons off Somalia's coast

Six Indians were among the crew of a hijacked cargo ship off Somalia's coast, according to a Somali official quoted by AP. The M/V LUTUF, a Cameroon-flagged vessel, was seized about 3.5 nautical miles off Marraya in Puntland's Eyl district on Monday. The ship was headed to a military training facility in Mogadishu with Turkish weapons and communication equipment.

It carried six Indian nationals, a Turkish, a Georgian, and two Serbian security guards. Eight pirates are believed to have taken the vessel, allegedly associated with a group involved in a previous hijacking. Turkish vessels and aerial surveillance monitored the situation, while a small boat delivering khat also approached the ship. An airstrike reportedly killed four pirates and injured two, though the details remain unverified.
