2027: NYSC DG warns corps members against political campaigns

Brig. Gen. Olakunle Nafiu, Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps, has cautioned young service members against engaging in political campaigns or utilizing their NYSC identity on social media to promote political parties and candidates prior to the 2027 elections. Nafiu emphasized the importance of verifying information before sharing on social media, warning corps members against spreading misinformation and AI-generated content.

During a visit to the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Katsina, Nafiu stressed that corps members must remain politically neutral and not campaign using their NYSC identity or social media platforms. He reminded them that improper social media activities while in uniform could result in disciplinary action. Nafiu highlighted the significance of the 2027 elections, noting that many corps members would serve as ad hoc electoral personnel, and encouraged them to contribute to Nigeria's democracy by facilitating the voting process.

The NYSC director-general also urged corps members to take advantage of the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development program, as vocational and entrepreneurial skills are increasingly essential in today's economy.
