2027: Mark warns against electoral manipulation, state power abuse

David Mark, the National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has cautioned against the misuse of state institutions to manipulate the 2027 general election. Mark emphasized that the credibility of the polls must be "non-negotiable" and called for transparency, inclusivity, peace, and freedom from manipulation, intimidation, and state abuse.

He expressed concern over recurring violations of the electoral process by governments and non-state actors, warning that such practices could undermine democratic governance and erode public confidence in the 2027 polls. Mark specifically cited the violent and intimidating conditions reported during the Osun State governorship election, which claimed at least 30 lives, as a warning for the upcoming general election.

He stressed that elections should remain a peaceful democratic process for citizens to choose their leaders and pursue development.
