2027: Christian group cautions politicians against ethnic, religious campaigns

The Christian Conscience, a non-denominational pressure group, has cautioned politicians against using ethnic and religious sentiments in their campaigns ahead of the 2027 general elections. The group's statement, signed by National Chairman Yetunde Akinluyi and National Secretary-General Kolawole Verrals, emphasized that campaigns should focus on issues affecting national development, such as education, healthcare, and the economy.

The group urged politicians to present credible ideas and demonstrate their competence to deliver these solutions. They also appealed to political parties, candidates, and supporters to reject violence, intimidation, and the use of political thugs during the electioneering period. The Christian Conscience emphasized the importance of peaceful political participation for credible elections and national stability.

The National Broadcasting Commission had previously warned against the spread of misinformation, hate speech, and inflammatory content during political campaigns.
