2 killed in roof collapse amid torrential rainfall in KP's Swabi

SWABI: A tragic incident unfolded in Topi tehsil of Swabi district when the roof of a family's home gave way due to torrential rain, resulting in the death of the man, Mohammad Fareeq, aged 50, and his daughter, 28 years old, while critically injuring their wife, 45, and son, 30. Rescue 1122 officials reported that the family was asleep when the roof collapsed, alerting their neighbors who promptly informed the rescue service.

Neighbors had already initiated rescue efforts prior to the arrival of rescue teams. The victims were subsequently taken to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital.

Rescue 1122 officials stated that the team had responded to multiple building collapses across Swabi due to the heavy rainfall. Notably, no casualties were recorded when a bank building collapsed. However, rescue operations shifted two individuals to safety in Jarandu Nahr and evacuated five from Azamabad Chowki. Additionally, over 300 people were evacuated to safer locations amidst flash floods and landslides triggered by the continuous downpour.

The Met Office forecasted heavy rainfall with isolated torrential rains in several districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Malakand, Nowshera, Charsadda, Swabi, Shangla, Malakand, Nowshera, Charsadda, Swabi, Shangla, Malakand, Nowshera, Charsadda, Swabi, Shangla, Malakand, Nowshera, Charsadda, Swabi, Shangla and Mardan until August 21. The forecast also warned of potential urban flooding in Swabi's low-lying areas.
