Woman held in Tirupattur for pledging fake gold jewellery

A 36-year-old woman, V. Rajana, from Bengaluru, was apprehended in Tirupattur by the local police on Wednesday for allegedly presenting counterfeit gold jewelry to a pawnbroker in the area. Police have charged her with the offense of cheating. Initial investigation uncovered that K. Dhilip Kumar, 26, operated a pawn shop near Vaniyambadi.

On July 17, Rajana approached Kumar's shop, claiming she needed to pledge three sovereigns of gold jewelry to cover her husband's medical bills, who was hospitalized in Bengaluru for private treatment. She also provided counterfeit medical documents to support her assertion. Kumar performed an initial test on the gold jewelry and paid her ₹1.5 lakh.

Post her departure, Kumar conducted a second examination and discovered that only a fraction of the jewelry was genuine gold, with the balance being a fake alloy. He promptly informed the Vaniyambadi police, leading to the registration of a case. Subsequent to these findings, special teams conducted an analysis of CCTV footage, which confirmed Rajana's presence at her hideout in Bengaluru.

She has since been taken into custody and is currently held at the sub-jail in Tirupattur. Ongoing investigations are being conducted to further unravel the details of this case.
