Witness gets combative in Tupac murder trial – ‘I don’t want to send him to prison’

A member of Tupac Shakur's crew, James "Mob James" McDonald, was combative during the second day of the rapper's murder trial on Tuesday. McDonald was asked repeatedly if he could identify who was responsible for Shakur's death, responding, "I'm not going to send him to prison, you are." The trial, which aims to solve one of America's most high-profile unsolved murders, takes place 30 years after Shakur's fatal shooting on September 7, 1996.

Prosecutors claim Duane "Keffe D" Davis orchestrated the shooting after his nephew Orlando Anderson was involved in a fight with Shakur hours earlier. McDonald, however, was hesitant to testify, saying he did not want to send Davis to prison, even though they did not get along. McDonald, a former Blood gang member and enforcer at Suge Knight's Death Row Records label, testified he was not with Shakur during the shooting.

He was questioned by Davis's defense attorney about his role and whether he witnessed the attack. McDonald maintained that those within Shakur's entourage quickly identified those responsible, emphasizing it was a gang war. The case, which has been dormant for decades, is expected to continue on Wednesday, with Shakur's security detail member Reggie Wright Jr also providing testimony.
