Weather alert: Fine and warm conditions across most provinces

The South African Weather Service (Saws) has issued a warning regarding extremely high fire danger conditions in certain areas of the Northern Cape. Meanwhile, other provinces are expected to experience fine and warm weather. On Thursday, August 20, 2026, the weather service has released its forecast for the following day.

In Gauteng, residents can anticipate fine and warm weather. Mpumalanga is expected to have partly cloudy conditions in the east, with warmer temperatures in the Lowveld. Limpopo will begin with morning fog in the west, but will become fine and warm, though hot in some areas. North West residents should expect a fine and warm day, while the Free State will also enjoy a fine and warm day.

In the Northern Cape, the day will be fine and warm, though cool along the coast. Western Cape residents can expect fog patches over the northeastern parts, with fine but partly cloudy conditions along the south. The UVB sunburn index is expected to be "very high" in the region, so residents should take necessary precautions against prolonged sun exposure.

Eastern Cape (western half) will start with cloudy conditions in some areas, transitioning to partly cloudy and cool weather. Eastern Cape (eastern half) will also begin with cloudy patches, before becoming partly cloudy and cool. KwaZulu-Natal residents can expect evening fog over the western and southern interiors, with partly cloudy and cool to warm weather overall. Isolated showers and rain are predicted along the southern coast and adjacent interior regions.
