Unemployed graduates with disabilities to picket at Jubilee House today

The Coalition of Unemployed Graduates with Disabilities plans to demonstrate at the Jubilee House today, August 19, to express discontent over the government's inability to meet its legal responsibility to hire individuals with disabilities in public institutions. The coalition alleges that despite providing the Ghana Education Service with a verified list of 200 qualified disabled graduates for recent recruitment exercises, none of these individuals were hired.

This, the group claims, highlights issues with the implementation of laws that aim to promote the inclusion of persons with disabilities in employment. Gilbert Boateng Agyare, the coalition's convenor, is requesting that the Ministry of Finance provide the necessary financial support to allow these graduates to secure jobs within government institutions.

The coalition demands that the Finance Ministry issue between 400 and 500 financial clearances to aid in the recruitment and deployment of its members to various government bodies. Boateng Agyare asserts that recent recruitment efforts, which involved the hiring of approximately 7,000 individuals by the Ghana Education Service, have ignored the names of the coalition's members, questioning the effectiveness of these efforts.

The group intends for their picket to bring the attention of President John Dramani Mahama and other relevant authorities to the employment hurdles faced by qualified disabled graduates. The coalition remains optimistic that the government will address these concerns and initiate positive action to enhance the inclusion of persons with disabilities in the public sector.
