Trump-Backed Catalina Lauf Loses Florida Primary Race
Trump formally backed Lauf in a post to Truth Social last week.
In Florida's Republican primary for the congressional seat vacated by Representative Byron Donalds, Catalina Lauf, who received President Donald Trump's endorsement late in the campaign, narrowly lost to Jim Schwartzel. The Associated Press declared Schwartzel the winner at 8:03 p.m. ET on Tuesday night. Schwartzel received approximately 29 percent of the vote, while Lauf came in second with around 22 percent.
The district is overwhelmingly Republican, and Schwartzel is favored to win the seat in November. Donalds also won the Republican nomination for governor on Tuesday.
