In Narragansett, Rhode Island, a truck carrying a large quantity of squid overturned, leading to a messy and smelly incident on the morning of Sunday. The fully-loaded trailer was making its way to a processing facility when it tipped over during a turn, causing a significant portion of the squid cargo to spill onto the road. Police arrived at the scene within minutes, but it took until 5:15 p.m. before the intersection was cleared and reopened.

The distinctive smell of the squid lingered in the hot summer weather, prompting local authorities to dub the incident the "Squidpocalypse of '26." Narragansett Police Captain Ryan Prest explained that the truck was transporting the squid to a processing facility when the accident occurred. Video footage captured the aftermath, showcasing a trailer overturned on its side and piles of squid scattered across the street.

Residents reported that the squid had a strong, unpleasant odor, especially when exposed to the sun for extended periods. While no injuries were reported among the driver or passengers, heavy equipment and a dump truck were brought in to clean up the squid, which took several hours.
