1901 marked the commencement of constructing a railroad that would link Seoul and Busan. This development aimed to improve transportation between these two major cities in South Korea.

In 1907, a modern barber shop opened at the royal court of the Joseon Dynasty, which ruled Korea from 1392 to 1910. This establishment signified the blending of traditional Korean culture with contemporary Western influences.

A significant moment in 1971 was the first meeting between Red Cross officials from North and South Korea since the Korean War that ended in 1953. This interaction took place despite the long-standing division between the two Koreas.

2010 saw the return of South Korean pastor Han Sang-ryol to his home country after a two-month unauthorized visit to North Korea. During his trip, he criticized his government's strained relations with the North, expressing his views on the divided states.

In 2012, Park Geun-hye, daughter of former President Park Chung-hee, was chosen as the presidential candidate of the ruling Saenuri Party. Her selection marked a significant milestone as she became the first woman and the first child of a former president to seek the presidency in South Korea. Her victory reflected a major shift in the political landscape.

North Korea's firing of shells at the southern side of the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) in 2015 was a response to South Korea's resumed border propaganda broadcasts. The military actions resulted in no casualties on either side, highlighting the ongoing tensions between the two nations.

A historic event occurred in 2018 when hundreds of South and North Koreans, separated by nearly seven decades of conflict, met for the first time in over six decades. This reunion took place at Mount Kumgang, a scenic resort located on North Korea's east coast. The event was a follow-up to an agreement between the leaders of the two Koreas, reached during their April summit, to address humanitarian issues stemming from the prolonged division caused by the Korean War.
