Tinubu asks Homeland Security Adviser to coordinate 5-Year Defence Plan

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commissioned a five-year rolling Strategic Defence Operations Plan aimed at enhancing collaboration among Nigeria's defence, intelligence, and security agencies. Major General Adeyinka A. Famadewa, Tinubu's Special Adviser on Homeland Security, leads an 11-member committee tasked with drafting the plan, which includes the National Security Adviser, Malam Nuhu Ribadu; the Ministers of Defence and State for Defence; the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede; the Chiefs of Army, Air, and Naval Staff; and the Directors-General of the Department of State Service and the National Intelligence Agency.

During a Federal Executive Council meeting, Tinubu stressed the necessity of a coherent framework to counter evolving security threats nationwide, highlighting recent security successes such as the rescue of abducted pupils and teachers in Oyo State's Oriire Local Government Area. He emphasized that the new framework would establish a unified understanding of the threats, operational objectives, and required capabilities to address them.

The committee is directed to produce the National Threat Assessment and Strategic Defence Operations Plan within 90 days, after which it will form the basis for coordinated military and defence operations over the medium term.
