Tamil Nadu CM Vijay Announces 365-Day Maternity Leave For State Government Employees For Third Child | Video

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay has announced an extensive series of welfare measures for state government employees and legislators. Among these measures is the extension of 365 days of maternity leave for women government employees who have a third child. Currently, women government employees are granted 365 days of maternity leave for their first two children, and this new measure seeks to bring the benefits for a third child in line with these provisions.

Minister D. Sarathkumar confirmed that women government employees will receive 365 days of maternity leave for their third child, aligning the leave available for the first two children. However, the DMK spokesperson TKS Elangovan criticized the decision, stating that Tamil Nadu was the first state to follow family planning and discouraged couples from having more than two children. He argued that it would be better to limit family size to two children for the benefit of both the family and the parents.

The government also announced that all legislators (MLAs) will receive a car at government expense, along with an increased monthly maintenance allowance of Rs 75,000 and an assistant allowance of Rs 25,000 per month. Additionally, the annual medical treatment limit under the Chief Minister's Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme has been proposed to be raised from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 25 lakh. This will provide additional medical and surgical services for transgender persons across various cities in Tamil Nadu.
