President Donald Trump announced that North Korean leader Kim Jong-un plans to meet with him next year, though he declined to answer whether this goal is to achieve North Korea's denuclearization. Trump claimed North Korea possesses 57 nuclear weapons and stated that a smart president would allow him to manage Kim. He emphasized his strong leadership on North Korea.

Trump confirmed his expectation of meeting Kim at the end of the year, without disclosing the exact timing or location. He avoided further details on the negotiations situation. Earlier, Trump refused to confirm any denuclearization talks with Kim. He added that he gets along well with Kim, but noted that a naïve president wouldn't allow such a relationship.

Trump stated that North Korea's leader didn't like former presidents Biden and Obama, but he did. He expressed satisfaction with their previous meetings and their conversations. Trump asserted that under his leadership, North Korea, as well as other countries like Japan and South Korea, would be safer. He connected his recent reduction in joint US- South Korea military drills to his relationship with Kim. Trump also complained about South Korea's lack of support for US-led Halmahera exercises.
