“이태원 참사 특조위에 특검 요청권을”…거리 나선 유가족들

At a press conference held on September 19th in front of Cheongwa-Dae in Seoul, 20 families of victims from the October 29th Itaewon Tragedy gathered to express their frustration over the lack of progress in the investigation. They had been waiting for the special investigation committee, known as the special probe, to complete its work since it began in June of the previous year.

The committee, which was originally established to find the truth behind the tragedy, had been plagued by internal conflicts and turmoil, causing it to miss its deadline. The families criticized the committee for not providing them with the necessary materials related to the incident, as per the provisions of the Itaewon Special Act.

In addition to this, they demanded that the committee be given the authority to introduce special prosecutors and enhance its investigative capabilities. The conference concluded with the families delivering a petition to the Blue House, urging action to be taken before the committee's deadline of March 16th.
