Riyadh to host UNESCO-backed Global Forum on AI Ethics in September

Riyadh is set to host the Global Forum on AI Ethics in September, uniting ministers, policymakers, and international experts to dialogue on responsible AI. The fourth edition of this forum will occur from September 14 to 17, under the supervision of UNESCO. This marks the first time the forum will take place in the Arab world, bringing together representatives from UNESCO member states, policymakers, leaders of prominent global companies and international organizations.

Participants will explore methods for promoting responsible use and governance of AI technologies. The focus will be on creating cross-continental policies to ensure fair and responsible distribution of AI technologies, tackling concerns over digital divides and potential biases leading to discrimination among communities. Key topics will encompass AI ethics, governance, capacity building, responsible innovation, and international policy.

The forum's program will include presentations of global initiatives and experiences through specialized sessions and workshops featuring leading experts and decision-makers from across the globe. These initiatives align with UNESCO's 2021 Recommendation on the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence, which stresses the significance of ensuring the safe use of AI technologies and preserving human dignity and rights amidst rapid technological advancements.
