Qatar pushes for ceasefire, Hormuz opening and talks

Doha, Qatar - Qatar's top diplomat has emphasized the country's commitment to diplomacy and dialogue as the only means to resolve conflicts and differences in the region. Dr. Majed bin Mohammed Al-Ansari, advisor to the Prime Minister and official spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that Qatar is working tirelessly to achieve a diplomatic resolution to the current crisis.

He reiterated the importance of a ceasefire, securing freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, and returning to negotiations with all parties involved.

Al-Ansari affirmed Qatar's dedication to protecting its people, land, and sovereignty, while also stressing the significance of good neighborly relations based on respect for sovereignty and joint cooperation. The country remains open to Iran sending a technical team to review the search and rescue operations related to its pilots, although Tehran has not responded to the invitation.

The diplomat addressed recent violations of Qatari airspace by Iranian aircraft, stating that the state took necessary actions in accordance with international and humanitarian obligations after confirming the violation. He reiterated that the current focus is on containing the crisis and returning to a diplomatic track, including the current violations of the ceasefire and the developments in the Strait of Hormuz, which necessitate working towards upholding the memorandum of understanding and resuming negotiations.
