The Tourism Minister of Tamil Nadu, S. Rajesh Kumar, announced on Wednesday that the state's department plans to develop popular film shooting locations on a Public-Private-Partnership basis. This initiative aims to provide tourists with an enhanced experience by offering facilities such as experience centers, signage, parking, and refreshment areas.
The Minister revealed that the development works at sites like Pechiparai dam in Kanniyakumari, Thirumurthi dam in Tiruppur, K.R.P. dam in Krishnagiri, and Kodiveri dam in Erode would cost around ₹48 crore. These projects will also include landscaping, play areas, seating arrangements, drinking water, and toilets for visitors. The department is also exploring cruise and ferry tourism, with ₹2 crore allocated to feasibility reports for coastal routes like Chennai – Kovalam, Poompuhar – Tranquebar – Nagapattinam, and Rameshwaram – Thoothukudi – Kanniyakumari.
Additionally, rope car facilities in Ooty and Kodaikanal, as well as AI-based CCTV cameras at tourist hotspots, are being studied as part of the project.
