Police arrest 40 suspects over robbery, kidnapping in Abuja

The Federal Capital Territory Police Command in Abuja has made 40 arrests in recent operations targeting traffic robbery, armed robbery, kidnapping and various traffic offenses. Commissioner of Police Ahmed Sanusi announced the arrests during a press briefing on Wednesday, explaining that the raids were prompted by a review of crime patterns aimed at combating vehicle theft and armed robbery in the FCT.

Ten suspects were apprehended for traffic robbery, while another 20 individuals were charged with multiple traffic offenses, including driving against traffic. The CP also revealed that two individuals were arrested for armed robbery in the Nyanya and Kubwa areas. One of the suspects, Ismail Tasiu, was apprehended at a hotel in Jabi, alongside Adamu Aliyu, who was accused of receiving stolen property.

In a separate incident, two individuals were arrested for kidnapping three residents of Nyanya, who were held hostage in New-Nyanya, Nasarawa State, before being rescued unharmed. Additionally, six suspects were apprehended by the Violent Crime Response Unit Team 1 for breaking into houses at night and stealing valuables.

The police recovered five motorcycles, three knives, a license plate, and a face cap bearing the inscription "Kaduna State Vigilante Service" from the suspects. All arrested individuals are currently in custody and will face court proceedings upon the completion of investigations. Sanusi emphasized the police's commitment to disrupting criminal networks and bringing perpetrators to justice, urging residents to provide credible information about suspicious activities in their communities.
