PHOTOS: Police, soldiers block ex-servicemen from protesting at defence ministry

Security forces prevented former military personnel from assembling in front of the Defence Ministry in Abuja on Wednesday to protest against the non-implementation of significant pension adjustments. These retirees had gathered to demand the implementation of pension changes that followed salary increases for active-duty soldiers.

Earlier, there was a clash between serving soldiers and the retirees when security forces tried to stop the ex-servicemen from staging their protest near the ministry. A large contingent of armed police and soldiers surrounded the location to deter the ex-servicemen from gathering at the ministry's entrance for their demonstration.
