Pentagon says adjustments to S. Korea-US exercise will not degrade training objectives

The U.S. Department of Defense announced on Tuesday that changes to the ongoing South Korea-US military exercise will not compromise its training objectives, while also maintaining the allies' readiness. Associated live-training events have been reduced, with some canceled or converted to simulations, according to the department's statement.

Following the President and Secretary of War's orders, the Department has significantly trimmed the exercise while maintaining training that boosts tactical proficiency. These modifications ensure no degradation of U.S. training goals. President Trump had directed Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth to shorten the South Korea-U.S. drills via a social media post on Sunday, citing the high costs and the perceived hostile message to North Korea.
